Lovelyarns is pleased to give back to the community by
 sponsoring several charity projects:

The Mother Bear Project  is an ongoing effort. We will provide a free pattern, and as
much acrylic yarn as you like.  All you have to do is knit a bear!  Then we will proudly
display it on the front wall of the shop.  When the wall is full, we box up the bears and
ship them  to the project headquarters in Minnesota. There, the bears get a
red heart sewn on, and then they go off to South Africa.
Lovelyarns' own Candace Blankenship went down to help Haiti, and brought a load
of bears with her.  (See our
Haiti page)

The 500 Hats Project was  an ambitious undertaking! In the Summer of 2009, we began
a campaign to have people knit and crochet hats for every child in Arlington
Elementary School here in Baltimore. Our wonderful yarn vendors supplied a huge
amount of beautiful yarn, and our knitters got to work.
Not only did we reach our goal of 500 Hats, we actually had enough hats so that
every student in the Elementary AND Middle  schools was able to choose a hat.
      Teachers too!

In November of 2008, Lovely knitters and crocheters helped
make mittens for every student at James McHenry Elementary
         School.
Each student traced his or her hand, and we made custom
         mittens to fit!

For 2010, we knit and crochet for the students of Hampden's own Elementary / Middle
school, right around the corner on Chestnut Ave!  Each elementary student traced his hand on a
"request form"and told us which colors he or she would like for their hat and mittens.
Some colored them in for us!  The middle-school kids at Hampden also filled out forms for
         their hats.

Update: Hats and mittens have been distributed, just in time for the  snow!
Many thanks to Ms. Brittany Marano for all her help in putting this project  together!

This year's project is back to Arlington Elementary! We will be working with the wonderful teachers
and staff, and Principal Terrelle Gray again. Our knitters and crocheters are busily making hats
         and we hope to have
525 hats by December 7th..
