Technique Classes

T1: Learn to Knit for Adults       
In the first class, you will learn to knit and bind off. Second class will include casting on, purling and reading a pattern. You should be able to knit up a scarf (yes,
you will!) after leaving these classes, and maybe do some ribbing too.

T2: Learn to Knit for Children & Teens

T3: Beginner Crochet Class
All crochet stitches start from a basic chain that is in turn started with a slip knot. Once you know how to make a chain and work your way back along the chain you
will know how to crochet. It's that simple, really!

T4: Entrelac
A unique "basket weave" pattern that looks really impressive, but is fun to knit! Learn the principles of this stitch, then make a gorgeous scarf  in self striping yarn!  
Basic knitting and purling skills, and increase and decreases are all you need. Please bring a pair of # 8 or 9 needles to practice on. We will supply scrap yarn to
work the pattern in class, and you may choose a gorgeous yarn for your actual project afterwards.

T5: Dye your own Yarn
Back by popular demand! You will get two (2) skeins of undyed yarn to play with. One will be painted with fiber-reactive dyes in your favorite colors, and the other will
be kettle-dyed for a more subtle color variation. Keep the skeins to knit up yourself, or give them as gifts to your favorite knitters and crocheters! Please wear old
clothing, and bring an old towel to class.

T6: Introduction to Cables
Love the look of an aran sweater with the twisting vine appearance? Come learn how to make those stitches move with grace and ease across your knitting.
Measure your gauge swatch and knit a small bag using a cable of your choice!

T7: Cast-on
Not satisfied with the way your cast-on edge looks or does not stretch? Maybe it stretches too much? What is a provisional cast-on? Learn how to start your projects
for a successful finish.
Please bring worsted weight yarn in a light color and size 7 needles.

T8: Double Knitting
No, it isn’t something Gramma does, nor do you need to be an experienced knitter. If you can knit and purl, you can double knit! This class will teach you the three
different techniques that are called double knitting. At the end of the class Barbie or Teddy will be on their way to a stylish wardrobe makeover.
Bring your plain yarn ends to class and needles appropriate in size (circular needles or DPNs are needed for the one method).

T9: Increases and Decreases
So, now you can knit and somehow you have more stitches than you started with, or fewer. Come learn how to increase and decrease stitches, so you can do it
intentionally and learn how to undo those extra stitches by knowing what to look for when you are knitting. Already feel confident and not picking up extra stitches,
but sometimes you want a decorative increase or decrease and sometimes you want to hide that increase or decrease? Come add some new techniques to
repertoire. All you need are basic knit and purl skills for this class
Please bring light colored, worsted weight yarn and appropriate needles to class.

T10: Intarsia
Come learn one method of adding multiple colors to your work. (Fair Isle and Stripes are two other popular methods, see the project classes). By the end of class
you will have a small bag to hold your needles or other notions.

T11: Finishing Techniques: Part One
Have some UFOs (UnFinished Objects) in your closet because your cast-off was too tight? Come learn other methods of casting or binding off. Hate to stitch that
shoulder seam? How about a three needle bind-off. And those pesky ends … learn to hide them discreetly and have them stay hidden. Blocking? No, we do not
mean those brightly colored wooden blocks, we mean add water and time, and hide some flaws while you are at it.
Please bring a tapestry needle to class, light colored worsted weight yarn and size 7 needles.

T12: Finishing Techniques: Part Two
Love to knit, but now what do you do with all those sweaters waiting to be stitched up? Bring them in and we will help you to seam them with ease. Meet your New

T13: Yes, You CAN fix knitted mistakes!
In this class you will learn how to identify problems with twisted stitches, dropped stitches, tension, how to use a lifeline, unravel and pick up stitches, how to avoid
picking up stitches / not enough stitches; how to count stitches and rows, how to join yarn, and more. This class is for all types of knitters!

T14: Revise that Pattern!
Don’t quite like the pattern as it was written? The sleeves are designed for King Kong? Have a particular idea for the Lovelyarn you just picked up? Don’t despair,
come learn how to make adjustments to a pattern by learning the basic details of a pattern. Teddy will gain some new sweaters as we put our skills to work on
small scale sweaters. Think of them as a large gauge swatch!

B1: Knit your First Hat
Yes, you can work in the round with a bulky yarn and knit your first hat! So cute for adults, kids, even babies. Make everyone on your gift list a HAT for the winter
season. Basic knitting skills are all you need. We will show you how to join and work on circular needles, decrease and expand your repertoire from just scarves.

B2: ColorWork Happy Hat
Take your knitting beyond the basic hat. Using a circular needle and up to 5 colors, learn to change and add colors to your work and use different stitch patterns to
get this adorable look!
Please bring a size 7 circular needle (or size 9 for adult hat) and worsted weight yarn in a variety of colors (they can be partial skeins from your stash) to class.

B3: Wrist Warmers
Like to have your fingers free for driving or smoking, or just aren’t ready to put fingers on your knit gloves? These speedy wrist warmers with thumb gusset are for
you! Learn how to cable and to work with double pointed needles. Please bring size 4 Double points to class.

B4: Autumn Vines Shawl or Scarf: Your first Lace Project
You’ve seen the beautiful olive green shawl at the shop. Now’s your chance to learn how to make it with wonderful Malabrigo laceweight! This class is for those of
you who can knit and purl, and want to try a lace pattern. Fear no more! We will make it fun and easy. You will follow this simple pattern, learn to use "lifelines," and
block lace correctly.
Knowledge of basic increases and decreases is required.
Bring size 10 or 11 needles to class.

Project Classes for Intermediate Knitters (knitting, purling, increase & decrease skills needed.)

I1: Toe-up Socks
Socks knit from the toe to the cuff can be specially altered and tweaked to fit the wearer... which makes them vastly appealing to new sock knitters! With basic
knitting and purling knowledge, this class will quickly cover DPN (double pointed needle) usage and casting on the toe of a sock. You will learn to cast-on for the
toe, make-one (M1) increases, a short row heel, and the perfect stretchy bind-off.  Please bring a set of size 3 double pointed needles to class.

I2: Fair Isle Mittens
For the advanced beginner to Intermediate knitter requires basic skill level with circular knitting on double pointed needles (DPNs) or two circular needles.
Students will learn how to do Fair Isle, a method of color work and make a cute set of mittens. In the first session students will become accustomed to working with
two colors During the second session students will finish the mitten and add the thumb.
NOTE: There is pre-class homework, so please come into the store to register and get your yarn.

I3: Felt Clogs
Make your own FELT CLOGS! The perfect gift for yourself or for someone special. No more cold feet! With a few skeins of wool and a fabulous pattern (plus a
fabulous teacher), we will show you how to knit up and felt these wonderful cozy slippers. You will want to make some for yourself and then do a bunch for all the
people who want to take yours away. Basic knitting skills required.
Please bring to class: (1) size 13 circular needle in 24" or 16", (1) size 13 straight needles, (1) size 13 stitch marker, a tapestry needle and a pen or pencil.
NOTE: There will be homework assigned at the end of the first class to complete before the second class.

I4: Fruity Cutie Hat
Do you have a baby or toddler in your life who needs the cutest hat? We've got a class for you! Knit this easy hat in orange, strawberry, even eggplant! All you need
are basic knitting and purling skills, and we will knit this hat in the round. You will learn to knit in the round using one of three methods for knitting a small project
(like a sleeve or sock) when you do not have a short circular needle for the project.
Please bring DPNs or 24” circular needle or 2 16” circular needles to class in a size 5, 6 or 7.

I5: Lace Nightie / Camisole
Seen the Interweave staff pattern from Spring 2007? Think it’s too difficult? We’ll walk you through it. In the first session we will check your gauge, cast-on and
establish the lace pattern. In the second session, we will learn I-cord and bury the ends.  Knit in the round from a lace weight yarn this little gem works up quickly.
Please bring: Stitch markers, and circular needle in size 4.
