Our team of talented, enthusiastic teachers will help you learn all kinds of new skills. ​

 

From beginner knitting and crochet to jewelry-making, spinning and weaving, we offer a broad selection to suit any skill level.  



Class sizes are small (maximum 6 students) so our students get plenty of individualized attention.  You also receive 10% off class materials when purchased at Lovelyarns.

Learn a new skill​ with one of our fabulous teachers.  Get the basics down with these classes, and then graduate to something more adventurous!

NOTE: You must be paid-up 48hrs before class starts, or we will not hold your spot.

If you must cancel due to unforeseen circumstance, we will work with you to reschedule your class or issue you a store credit for the amount of your class fee.

Learn to Knit*

 Discover a lifelong hobby -- knitting!

We begin this technique course with the basics, such as how to hold the knitting needles and yarn, and progress you through all the basic stitches. This class is taught in the English-style  of knitting (controlling the yarn with your right hand).  Step-by-step, you will learn the skills needed to confidently knit any beginner-level pattern.
  All materials will be included in the class price and no experience is necessary.

Crochet Bootcamp*

Learn to crochet with Brittni in this fun two-day, 4 hour workshop! Each class session will be 2 hours long on consecutive Sundays. All materials will be included in the class price and no experience is necessary.

Learn to Drop Spin!

Have you ever wanted to spin your own yarn? In this class you will learn the basics of spinning wool roving into yarn using a drop spindle. You will gain the skills to spin a singles yarn, learn spinning related terms and techniques, and leave with instructions on how to ply your singles yarn into a two-ply yarn.

A top-whorl drop spindle and assorted multicolored wool roving to practice with is included in the class fee.

 

Instructor Sarah Mikkelsen learned to spin using a drop spindle at National Knit in Public Day on the National Mall in 2005.

Next Steps in Knitting*

Just learned to knit? This is the class for YOU! Take your knitting to the next level with Sarah who will show you how to create stripes, increase and decrease stitches, make fringe/tassels and learn to read a pattern.

Natural Dye Workshop*

Learn to dye your very own yarn with an assortment of natural dyes! Noelani, will guide you through the entire dye process in this super fun class! All materials will be provided for you and you will be able to go home with your personally hand-dyed hanks! Class will take place outside in our back yard.  Be sure to wear something weather appropriate that can get dye on it and bring snacks and a drink so you can stay hydrated and sated!

Let Noelani guide you on your fiber journey to help make your dream project become a reality in this super fun weaving workshop! Paper Weaving Workshop*

Brighten up your home or workspace with a new decorative basket made by YOU! In this workshop you will watercolor paint on paper which you will then cut into strips and weave into a decorative basket to take home.  All materials will be provided so just bring yourself and a sense of adventure!

Are you completely overwhelmed with all the choices you get on a Ravelry search? Don't know what Ravelry is? In this fun class Melissa will guide you through all of the ins and outs of this amazing FREE online resource for knitting and crochet! Materials: Bring your favorite device for online searches so you can actively participate during class.  If you don't have a Ravelry yet, then we will help you sign up!

My First Knitted Hat*

You will learn to knit in the round, use stitch markers, make decreases and use DPNS.  Materials can be purchased before class with a 10% class discount. You will need worsted weight yarn, size US 8/5mm 16" circular knitting needles, size US 8 DPNs, stitch markers and a tapestry needle.  Students should already be comfortable casting on, knitting, purling, and binding off.

"Casual Summer Shirt with Stripes"

We LOVE knitting top down raglan pullovers and we think you will love them too! Let Marcia guide you through the sweater knitting process in this three session class. Class will meet for two hours every other week to give you time to knit up to the next "tech area" of your pullover between sessions.

Materials: You will need 6-10 skeins of DK weight yarn depending on the size you wish to make along with needles to get gauge.  Materials can be purchased from Lovelyarns with your 10% class discount.  Yarn must be ordered at least 14 DAYS before class begins to ensure that your supplies arrive on time.  You will also need to purchase the pattern from Ravelry HERE.

 

This pattern calls for stripes however, you can knit it up in as many or as few colors as you wish.

Entrelac**

Learn the basics of  entrelac knitting with Melissa in this fun two hour class.  Entrelac knitting is a more advanced technique that creates a beautiful woven texture.  Unlike most basket weave stitches, entrelac works on the diagonal and in different directions so it truly looks like strips of woven knitting. Worked in short rows, you can knit this type of pattern in one or more colors.  You should already be comfortable with knitting basics before you sign up for this class.

Materials: 2 or more contrasting colors of worsted weight yarn and a pair of size US8/5mm knitting needles (circs or straights it doesn't matter because we will be knitting flat.)

Gauge & Mods**

Ever want to make a pattern but it's not in your size? Or not in the weight yarn you want to use? Learning to find your gauge in knitting OR crochet can help you modify any pattern to suit your specific needs! Let Melissa show you how to become a "Mod Master" in this fun two hour class.  

 

HOMEWORK/Materials: You will need to make a swatch in stockinette or in single crochet made in any weight yarn with knitting needles or a crochet hook that gives you a fabric that you like.  Bring to class some scrap paper, a pen or pencil, gauge square/measuring tape, and a calculator.

Two at a Time Toe-up Magic Loop Socks**

Using a basic toe-up sock pattern, participants will learn the Magic Loop technique of toe-up two-at-a-time (TAAT) socks.  Participants will also learn the Turkish cast-on, Fish Lips Kiss heel, stretchy bind-off, and how to adapt patterns. We will be making a sock template for your own custom socks. Be prepared to bare your foot. Participants must be familiar with knitting socks, knitting in the round, and basic increases. For purposes of time, we will be making a child-sized sock

Materials:

  • Fingering/Sock weight yarn. Total of 200 yards of plain colored yarn (light colors preferred--no variegated, black, navy, etc.) separated into 2 balls. Please have this ready before class.

  • US # 1, 1.5 or 2 needle (your preference) with either a 40" or 47" cable. ChaioGoo Red Lace or HiyaHiya Sharps preferred for the cable flexibility. If using HiyaHiya, make sure cable is straightened before class.

  • 2 light bulb/safety pin style stitch markers.

  • Magic Marker and Ruler for personalized sock template as described in FLK heel pattern.

  • Fish Lips Kiss (FLK) Heel pattern purchased on Ravelry or in-store.

  • Note pad and pen/pencil to take notes.

  • 2 Sandwich sized ziplock-style baggies.

 

Materials are not provided, but you will receive a 10% shop discount on all items purchased for the class (not including the FLK pattern).

You will need worsted weight yarn, 16" US 8 circular knitting needles and a set of US8 DPNs for the crown shaping or other needles for knitting magic loop in the round.
